Companionship

This piece is the companion to Seclusion.  It is heavily based on pattern.  In this instance I was experimenting with watercolor pencils for the flesh tones.  The final is a mix of the pencils and ink washes mixed with them and, especially in the case of the bottom hand, washed over them.
The idea I was trying to communicate with this piece is the concept of companionship, or rather the absence of loneliness, as it is meant to contrast its companion piece, Seclusion.  This idea is emphasized with more saturated colors, more light, the opening of a closed gate into something new, and the emergence of life (birds).
